Glow Activities

Everyone has their own story.

“I learnt working in a group and social skills. I also learnt how to ride a unicycle and spin plates. At the same time, the group cheered me up, respected me, and got me out of bed and out to the world.” – A youth who participated in circus activities

Glow

  • Art workshops for youth in difficult situations in life
  • Strengthening life skills: self-esteem, social skills, courage

Glow strengthens the youth’s own active agency: I know how and I can. Social circus, community theater and other applied use of art are effective ways of discussing the tangled threads of life and strengthening life skills. No advance skills are required for participating in the activities. The focus is on doing things together and gaining positive experiences. Any youth group from anywhere in Finland can apply to participate in the activities. Read more about the application process.

Healthy self-esteem, strong social skills and courage to act are a basis for coping in life. In the long-term workshops, the youth can practice both independent working and cooperation with others. In pair acrobatics, you can learn how to trust yourself and others, shooting a short film increases performance and leadership skills and working with images and illustrations may help translate even the deepest emotions into colours. Preparing a show or exhibition support working in a long-term perspective and committing to a common goal.

Understanding your own strengths makes it easier to make choices and commit. Youth whose spark has been lit by Glow may move on to studies and working life on their own or through our Next operations.

In art activities targeted at youth with immigrant background (Kotio and Wings to Fly – Social Circus Empowers), youth get to know the Finnish language and culture through art activities. When rooting in a new culture, own identity may be tried and the lack of a familiar community is exhausting. Applied use of art lets the youth process emotions and thoughts evoked by the change.
