In the Wings to Fly – Social Circus Empowers project (2018–2020), youth with immigrant background learned Finnish, found their own strengths and improved their life skills, such as self-esteem, social skills and courage to take action trough social circus activities. The project has ended.
Positive experiences of participation and enthusiasm gave the youth helpful tools for finding new paths in their lives, be it in studies or work, hobbies or volunteering.
Wings to Fly – Social Circus Empowers was carried out in cooperation with four organisations of performing arts, the Finnish Youth Circus Association, and the Youth Research Society. PiiPoo Centre for Culture and Art, Sirkus Magenta, Sorin Sirkus and Art School Estradi cooperated with the municipalities of Lappeenranta, Tampere and Vantaa.
Wings to Fly – Social Circus Empowers project was funded by the European Social Fund, the Finnish Children and Youth Foundation and the participating municipalities. The project lasted for 2.5 years, and the supervisory authority in Finland was the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment.
