Brasilia: Nuorten työllistyminen ja kestävä kehitys
Kolmivuotisen (2011-2013) hankkeen tavoite on edistää nuorten kestävää taloudellista kehitystä parantamalla heidän työllistymismahdollisuuksiaan ja vahvistamalla heidän elämäntaitojaan. Hanke tavoittaa 300 vähäosaista nuorta Bahian osavaltiossa Simões Filhon kunnassa Salvadorin metropolialueella. Hankkeen kautta nuoret kehittävät elämäntaitojaan, tietoisuuttaan ympäristöasioista, kestävästä kehityksestä ja vaikutusmahdollisuuksistaan yhteisöissään, sekä erilaisia työelämässä vaadittavia taitoja, erityisesti ICT taitoja. Yhteisöä hyödyttävät kestävään kehitykseen perustuvat työharjoittelujaksot ovat tärkeä osa hanketta. Niiden kautta nuoret saavat kosketuspintaa työelämään ja toteuttavat käytännössä opittuja taitoja.
Hankkeen toiminnan ja jatkuvuuden turvaamiseksi myös verkostoituminen eri yhteiskunnan tahojen ja yritysmaailman kanssa on merkittävällä sijalla hankkeessa. Hanke toteutetaan yhteistyössä paikallisen kumppanin Aliança Instituten kanssa. Hanke saa Suomen ulkoasiainministeriön myöntämää hanketukea.

Brazil: Promotion of Youth Employment and Sustainable Development
The project aims to promote the sustainable economical development of youth by improving their employability and strengthening their life skills. Within three years period (2011-2013) the project will reach 300 disadvantaged youth in Simões Filho, in the great metropolitan area of Salvador Bahia. The project will be implemented jointly by The Finnish Children and Youth Foundation and its Brazilian co-operation partner, Aliança Institute. The project is supported by the funding from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland to the development cooperation projects of NGOs.
Objectives:
The objective of the project is to place the unemployed young people in good jobs, enhance their possibilities for good life and make them key actors in the development of their communities. The project will help the youth to increase their skills and knowledge and to build their capacities in employment market, concentrating on information and communications technology (ICT), enhance their environmental awareness and life skills. The trainers participating in the project will enhance their knowledge and knowhow in issues related to the project objectives. The project also aims to build alliances between different sectors of the society to assure young people’s placement in the labor market and assure the sustainability of the project.
Target Group/ Beneficiaries:
The direct beneficiaries of the project are:
- 300 disadvantaged young people, 17 to 24 years old, who come from low-income families. A special emphasis will be given to young women as well as to afro-descendent young people who belong to the poorest and most discriminated ethnic groups in Brazil.
- 3-4 trainers yearly, who participate in the implementation and build their capacities.
- Companies that benefit from skilled and motivated workforce.
The indirect beneficiaries of the project are the families and communities of young people participating in the Project. The young people generate income for their families and the lessons learned within the project can be incorporated into their actions in the future and forwarded to support the wellbeing and quality of life of the whole family.
Implementation/results:
The objectives will be reached through the following means:
- Trainings on ICT, life skills and sustainable development and environment.
- Through internships.
- Improving trainers’ skills through constant capacity building which will enhance the sustainability of the Project and its objectives.
- Creation of alliances with different sectors in order to support the placement of the youth to formal labor market.
At the end of the project:
- 300 young people have been inserted to trainings. At least 85% of them have been certified and have gained good evaluation at the end of the project.
- At least 60% of the youth have found job placements in the formal labor market.
- All trainers have participated in the capacity building courses and 90% of them have considered the quality of the capacity building courses as either excellent or good and enhanced significantly their capacities.
- As part of assuring job placement of the youth and the sustainability of the project, partnerships have been established with 20 companies each year to promote youth employability and sustainable development and the project has been introduced to employers, business associations, and coordinators from local and state job placement programs.
- The young people have been registered in the official employment database most commonly used by employers.
- The young people are continuing to participate in seminars and workshops to update knowledge and skills to enable them to maintain their jobs.
